CWIB Richmond Trek: A Recap

I think it’s safe to say that if you are a Collegiate Women in Business (CWIB) member, you have heard of our treks. These short excursions take members to some of the most exciting cities that are home to some of the most well-known companies. Recently, members “trekked” to our state’s capital of Richmond. Attendees began their trip to the River City with an event specifically for women in the field of business. During the event, they were able to hear stories from women in the field and ask questions about life after college. The next day, members visited Altria (one of the world’s largest tobacco companies), CarMax (a Fortune 500 company), as well as The Martin Agency (an advertising agency). If you’re thinking that sounds like a full day… you’re right! It was a day full of learning and networking – something you could be part of in the future!

If my recap isn’t convincing enough, perhaps testimonies from fellow members may persuade you to join the next trek...

For sophomore member Olivia Walther, it was the opportunity to see companies firsthand that motivated her to apply for the trip. She admitted that, “It’s a different experience than listening to people who come to campus and talk about their companies.” As it turned out, the reason she applied ended up being her favorite part of the trip because, “It was such a great experience to actually go to these companies to meet the people that work there and see how they work.”

For senior member Cici Fortson, it was the destination that sparked her interest. She explained that, she, “...applied to go right away due to my interest in living in the Richmond area after graduation.” As a new member, she also saw the trek as a great opportunity to get to know other members and have fun while networking! Cici even applied for a job with one of the companies they visited and was able to reach out to the individuals she met during the trip. What is her advice? She says that, ”As a recent member who didn’t join until this year, I regret not joining earlier. Take every opportunity you are given to go on a trek! The low cost and richness of the experience are good enough reasons to go.”

Have I convinced you yet? Keep an eye out for future trek information in the weekly newsletter, and don’t forget to attend monthly meetings to increase your chance of going on the next trek!
