Deck the Halls with Rest and Relaxation

Well, another semester has come and gone (is it just me or does it feel like syllabus week was yesterday?). Congrats, fellow businesswomen – for better or for worse, we made it through the fall and will be able to *officially* enjoy winter break in just 24 hours. While I hate to say it, just because classes are finished and grades are about to be finalized, we aren’t quite off the hook yet. Before you binge watch Season 2 of The Crown or, as I will be doing, watch every single Hallmark Channel Christmas movie on TV, there are a few more things to keep in mind…

Rounding Out the Semester

1. Thank Your Teachers: Professors put in a lot of work to make classes available and they truly appreciate words of gratitude from their students. How you thank them is completely up to you – an email, a card, etc. In fact, Virginia Tech even offers a program that makes it easy to write your note and have it delivered for you! Just follow the instructions using this link http://www.cideronline.org/thankateacher/ and you are all set!

2. Finalize Your Spring Schedule (as best you can): Change your registration as needed and ask your advisor any questions you have before you head home. Need to get into a class that is currently full? Sign up for notifications using Course Pickle. They’ll send you an email when a spot opens in the class you need!

Over Winter Break

1. Treat Yourself: After 15 weeks of questionable sleep schedules and higher-than-healthy stress levels, winter break is the perfect time for some good old fashion R&R. Let yourself sit on the couch longer than usual, treat yourself to a massage or facial, check a few books off your reading list. Whatever relaxes you, take this chance to indulge yourself! And don’t forget to sleep. Seriously, you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Apply for Internships: Having to explain to your extended family what you major is and what you plan to do with your degree is exhausting enough, but what better time to apply to internships than the four weeks when you don’t have any homework or tests to think about?? (That wasn’t rhetorical… there is no better time.)

But most importantly, enjoy the holidays! Whatever you celebrate, make this year’s break a good one. Happy Holidays!
