If I had a dollar for every time my mom has told me to use my resources, I would have enough to pay my tuition for the rest of my time at Virginia Tech. Okay… more likely I could pay for a few dinners at Turner, but still. Maybe you’ve been on the receiving of this statement or maybe you haven’t, but lucky for all of us, Virginia Tech offers a wealth of resources for quite literally anything you could need. Read on to brush up on resources you knew about and perhaps some that you didn’t. And this semester, I challenge all of you to use your resources.
Student Success Center
This is a popular one that most people have heard of, but don’t realize the extent of their offerings. The SSC offers everything from tutoring, one-on-one peer academic coaching, and even an entire series on academic success. Drop by Femoyer Hall for an hour session on time management, study strategies, or test taking or schedule an appointment online for tutoring on a variety of sessions.

Recreational Sports
VT Rec Sports is a division of Student Affairs. If you are enrolled as a full time student, you are already paying for a gym membership in your fees, so why not take advantage of a service you are paying for? At the beginning of each semester, Rec Sports hosts an entire week of free group classes. After trying classes such as Pilates, HIIT, and my personal favorite, Body Pump, you may feel inclined to buy the GroupX pass. (Pro tip: convince a friend to buy it as well, classes are so much more fun with other people!)

Pamplin Career Services
This division of Pamplin is responsible for Business Horizons – but beyond career fairs, Career Services offers workshops, classroom presentations, and more. Be sure to read the Career Connect emails each Sunday to learn about full-time Job and Internship opportunities and more chances to expand your professional skills.

Visit the Cook Counseling Center. Whatever you need, someone at Tech will be happy to help you. Check out the Virginia Tech website for more or contact your advisor. Above all, just remember to use your resources.
